Not a lot of choice in the immediate area. There is a pub in Alwinton and there are several tea shops and pubs in Rothbury which is only a few miles drive. There are no refreshment opportunities en route.

First Steps

Turn left as you exit the car park and walk to the bottom of the village. Turn left and then follow the footpath signs to Clennel Street. There is a steep, but short, track - then go through the gate and continue on your way.

Things to look out for

Miles and miles of magnificent scenery!

The final furlong

When you descend to Shillmoor, you ned to keep to the left of the road, crossing two streams. You have to cross the stream and then I'm afraid that there is a sting in the tail - a steep - but short - climb up Pass Peth. Keep going and then you will meet the road that goes back to Alwinton.

Other walks from Alwinton.

The army train south of Alwinton, so you need to take care. However, you could easilly extend this walk and return via Usway Burn. There are also numerous field and lane options for a circular to/from Harbottle.
